Not a good survey. The stats seem wrong based on what I'm seeing everywhere else. 2000 people is not a large enough sample set. And although the 40% higher demand makes sense given the full year that took place between introduction of "tablets" as a concept versus as an established product, it means very little. These Apple speculator people need real jobs.

You can't boot XP from CD on a Mac. You can't you can't you can't. The Mac boots using EFI, which XP doesn't support.

You need to use Boot Camp to install it, as legacy BIOS emulation has to be loaded specifically for XP.

No...the EFI room supports BIOS emulation. Bootcamp is nothing more than a GUI to access the Disk Utility to resize the HD partition, Set the proper Boot volume, and burn a Driver CD.

You can totally install XP without even installing Bootcamp, however you do need the drivers.

If you boot and hold the option key down then insert the XP cd, you WILL see it there, and you CAN boot from it. However you will need to have the HD's partitioned and set up ahead of time, and the BootCamp utility makes that easier.

The BIOS emulation is a feature built into EFI...Apple had it disabled on the MacBook Pro, and the first firmware upgrade enabled it, and since then Apple has had it enabled on all current models.

Much easier said then done. Remember, it takes 60 votes to get anything done in the Senate and the Republicans obstructed virtually ever bill brought up.

i though the budget was not allowed to be fillibustered. It has its own rules in place on it.

...that developer friend of yours is breaking his agreement with Apple and he should stop.
I think he was just trying to convince me to sign up. I'm not so sure now. We'll see what happens with this next version.

RAW handling in OSX is done by the operating system, so updates to RAW support imply updates to OSX as well.

I think this is sort of true in Aperture but not 100% true. Aperture has it's own RAW decoders (1.0 and 1.1 versions) which are separate from the system and run in Core Image. I believe that it relies on the system support for colour profile data only...

The iOS has some good games, but older games made for joystick/buttons/paddles don't quite cut it. I can't imagine Tempest with at least buttons (though the knob is ideal).

I like TRON and the game for the DS you have to use the touchscreen for some of the battles. The Tank and Disc battles the stylus/finger gets in the way of the playing screen.

The PSP version you just use the buttons, keeping the screen clear for viewing.

I think Sony's design of a rear touchpad on the new PSP will be the answer to a lot of "mobile touch gaming".

Yeah, the touchscreen isn't there for most established games, but for the games that can take advantage of it and don't rely on twitch movement, games that are more casual in nature, it's a very cool way to play, like World of Goo.

That PSP opens lots of options, like a real pointer. =O

So how would me exercising my right to refuse to sell X to Y infringe upon Y's "rights"?Y has a right under your Constitution to be treated equally to anybody else. You can refuse to serve Y because Y is abusive, intimidating, shifty or unreasonable, but not simply because Y is black, gay, "Muslim-looking" or trans-gendered.

I felt the same way as Woz when the iPad was first announced. A great product for my wife but not for me, I need my macbook.

Then I was assigned to develop iPad apps and got one. My wife still doesn't have one, but I won't leave home without mine. I can remote into my home or work mac when needed, have all my music and video and docs with me always.

Sure, I won't write code on it but for pretty much everything else this is it. Basically it is a window into the world, erasable paper, portable media.

I've also got a blackberry, a windows phone, a Galaxy, a Dell Streak and a Xoom on my desk right now (and a Playbook on the way) and just can't understand how they all missed the mark when Apple has been showing them the way for the past year.

I've become a believer in the iPad.

from your same source, the VERY NEXT paragraph:

The EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is a great example of a well designed EF-S series lens. It provides a field of view similar to what Canons popular EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM and EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM do on a full frame camera like the 5D Mark II.

Yup. So the EF-s lens is providing a field of view of 16-35.2mm in full-frame, 35mm equivalent. So is effected by the 1.6 crop. Which is what I've been saying all along.

I found this interesting, apparently people can't buy an iphone online from AT&T delivered to NY. However, you can still get it at stores.

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/12/28/iphone.sales.nyc/index.html

What do you guys think? Fraud? Just a glitch? Or desperate measure by AT&T to stop the congestion?

Umm - did you read any of this thread at all?

I once sat on a plane next to an intellectual property lawyer who was commuting to NYC for work from Rochester. As it turned out he had once worked for EK and was now working in the city.

When I conveyed my surprised over how strange it was that Eastman Kodak was lagging behind in digital imaging and still focused on film considering they were responsible for much of the technology behind digital imaging, he basically inferred that EK's leadership mismanaged their patent goldmine.

i bet they had people there with MBA's from good schools running financial what if's and telling management to avoid digital because they will make less money due to not selling the film or anything other than the camera

Living outside of Rochester and working in the city I've have associated with a number of Kodak people (both current and former, there are lots of former). Frankly in this town MBAs have become associated with idiots, that seem to engage in heard mentality.

It isn't that they miscalculated the rise of digital, as miscalculations happen in business, it is the silly decision they made that resulted in the company divesting itself of businesses that had a future. The point is you can miscalculate a bit when it comes to how rapid you core tech will become useless but your planning should recognize that is going to happen and that you need to grow in a different direction. Instead Kodak shrunk itself down around a dying business.

I've not read the patent so I can't say much to that but I do hope they loose and loose big time. I just think the management team needs a big slap in the face.

Point me to ANY PC with included great software, a DVD burner, and awesome case, gig ethernet, an included firewire setup that works with drives and cameras for even $1699! The MS products have more functionality for sure ... question is if really everyone needs everything from that functionality. For most home users and even some business users iWorks does everything they need and is therefore a cheaper option that does the trick. Many business customers (and few home users) need stuff that iWork does not offer, but MS Office does.

Bottom line: depends on your use case -> bold statements like Product A is better then B are rarely true since it usually depends on many things.

Thanks for stating the obvious but why would one NOT chose something that is 100% doc and docx compatible with all the Windows counterparts?

If you need to compose a grocery list or a flier for your next garage sale then iWurk is for you I guess but for the rest of us that actually need to collaborate with other people in the real world, no thanks.

It's pretty clear that Apple will not be releasing to laptops before the holiday season. Laptops just aren't the typical gift. They are in the wrong price range.

Don't be surprised to see iTV sooner than later or the long waited video iPod.

Expect the new revised Mac Book Pro in January, featuring a redesigned enclosure and keyboard.

Sorry, but that the way it is.

how do they release the preview to developers and not let loose the super secret features? are all the super secret features all applications which don't need testing?

or will there be another round of betas?

My bet is that the GUI will be tested in the labs, there will be a few more apps put to the Dev's but not for a while yet. Apple want them to get board of spaces so they can put more atention on to the newer (SUPER SECRET) apps.

to be frank, the GUI will not be put out on any beta. this is the one thing apple dont want those pencil pushing theifs at redmond to see as it will no doubt work its way into there next relese (microsoft 2012?)

What about those of us who use OS X (Mac) and Linux (PC) about 50-50? I mean - in the sense that we can't get the work done without either one.

For certain tasks, Windows is... good enough - but I avoid using it if I can. However, I'm not a vegetarian - and I do prefer Harley over Vespa.
